The Story of BEARPAW: In 2001, a young Tom Romeo was searching for a sign to choose between his two passions. While meditating on a special rock near Lake Tahoe, a massive bear suddenly paused and stared at him, inspiring Tom to start his own shoe company named BEARPAW as an homage to this chance encounter.
Tom soon learned that a bear crossing is viewed by many as a sign of good luck and a symbol of strength, with the bear serving as a guide for those at an impasse. This experience made Tom realize his opportunity to start a shoe company founded on this great animal.
Shortly after, the very first BEARPAW boot style, called EVA, was created. Since then, the EVA has evolved into the ELLE boot, which is still the most popular shoe style in the company's collection. Both EVA and ELLE embodied the BEARPAW lifestyle with their warmth and effortless style.
